How to restore a command to a menu
Article contributed by Bill Coan and Dave Rado
Method 1
1.. |
On the Tools menu, choose Customize |
2. |
Click the Commands tab at the top of the dialog box |
3. |
Pull down the Save In list and select normal.dot if not already selected.. |
4. |
In the Categories list, choose All. |
5. |
In the Commands list, scroll down to the missing command and drag it with the mouse out of the list and up to the desired menu, pausing when you get there to let the menu drop down, then release the command at the position where you want it to appear on the menu |
5. |
Click the Close button, hold the Shift key down and select File + Save All. |
Method 2
1. |
On the Tools menu, choose Customize |
2. |
On the Commands tab, pull down the Save In list and select normal.dot if not already selected.. |
3. |
On the Toolbars tab, select Menu Bar |
4. |
Click the Reset button |
5. |
Click the Close button, hold the Shift key down and select File + Save All. |
Note: This method resets all your menus to their original state, which may or may not be the result you want to achieve.
Method 3
1. |
With Word closed, rename Normal.dot to some other name. |
2. |
Go back into Word, and a “virgin” copy of normal.dot will be created. |
3. |
When you quit Word and are asked whether you would like to save changes to Normal.dot, select Yes. |
Note: This method resets all your menus, toolbars, and styles to their original state, and also doesn't retain any macros you may have stored in Normal.dot (although the styles, macros and custom toolbars can be copied over using the Organizer).
Again, this may or may not be the result you want to achieve.
